“Life begins at the end of your comfort zone.” - Neale Donald Walsch

Your comfort zone is a behavioral state (and a darn comfortable behavioral state too). It’s healthy to push ourselves to a state of discomfort because that’s where growth and transformation occur.

To change that comfort zone behavior state means changing your reality model. When you identify a belief you want to change you’ll find two barriers you might encounter.

1. Pressure from peers who don’t want you to change.

2. Fear of the unknown.

This is what usually happens: people get comfortable with these belief barriers. They naturally resist new ideas and models because of pressure and fear. People want to avoid confrontation and we’re hardwired to avoid fearful situations.

Don’t allow yourself to stay in your comfort zone!

This is so important to not allow yourself to stay in your comfort zone. This is what I like to call the ‘Tyranny of the Familiar’. It is when people say, “This is the way we have always done it.” Changing this belief and getting out of the comfort zone gives you the power to your personal transformation. The only thing holding you back is pressure from peers and fear of the unknown.

So what are you doing to leave your comfort zone? Share your thoughts.

The rules of The Reality Model (you’ll find them in my self-help ebook The Power of Perception) give you a how-to process for personal transformation to help you understand why you do the things you do. One of those things that you will come to understand is how to turn failures into positive life changes.

The first step is to identify your current belief on your window, then if that belief is not getting you the results you want in life, you must replace that belief with a healthy and real belief on your window and identify what failure really is. Failure is not bad if realized correctly. If you believe failure is a bad thing in life then you will do everything in your power to avoid it.But if you believe that failure is part of growth, you will turn failures into meaningful and positive life change.

This reminds me of a time when I had received one too many speeding tickets. I asked myself the question: What is on my belief window about speed? I realized that because I am Hyrum Smith, co-founder of the Franklin Planner, my self-esteem is tied to being on time. If I am late it affected my self-esteem. So I changed that belief in my window to a healthy and real belief: being on time has nothing to do with my self-esteem and failure is a part of growth.

Now, I don’t drive too fast (well mostly I don’t drive too fast) and I believe if I fail it is going to lead to more meaningful positive life change and not lead to an injured self-esteem.

What failures on your part have turned into meaningful learning experience and growth?

“Someday, when I get time, I’m going to…”

The desire to get organized is at the heart of managing time, to get the events in our lives under our control, to find time to do things we really want to, is felt by most of us at one time or another. How many times have you said those words or something similar?

That’s why time management is the most commonly taught skill in corporated training, and time management or other “How to Get Organized” seminars are widely attended throughout the United States and in many other countries.

The trouble with most time management instruction is that it focuses only on getting things done more efficiently.

No one ever tells you to ask yourself, “Why am I doing this?” or “Should I really be doing this?” or “Do I want to do this?”

And unless you are consistently making the opportunity to accomplish things that are important or meaningful to you, being better organized will only fill up your time and make you more frustrated.

At the heart of “managing time” is learning to identify what you really WANT to do, not just the mechanics of keeping track of what you’re doing.

Unless what you are doing on a daily basis reflects your most deeply held values, you will never experience inner peace and you will not be a truly effective “time manager.”
